My True Blood Thoughts:

So, I just made a credit card payment online, and when I was finished, the screen said, 'Congratulations!'

Um. Dude. Congratulations are not in order for routine bill paying.
. . . . . .

So, of all the things to be disappointed about, I have to say, I'm kinda bummed that there won't be a new True Blood this week.

I have to say, I really, really dig the show. Amongst all the things I love about it, the biggest one is that in a lot of ways it really gets the atmosphere of the South right, and I always appreciate that. (Other things that get it right: Black Snake Moan, Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, Love Song for Bobby Long, Steel Magnolias, Doc Hollywood [yes, really].)

The atmosphere is just... on. That's what happens in small towns--everybody knows everybody's business, and the heat and proximity and humidity just sort of cook everything into a big human gumbo. Tempers flare, as do libidos. And tackiness abounds, both of the intentional and unintentional variety.

And I LOVE some of the characters...

***SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP, FOR GOD'S SAKE QUIT READING!!**

For instance, my personal favorite, Lafayette. God damn, but I love his character, and I am exceedingly joyous that he has not yet met an untimely demise (especially since he's a minor character in the books that gets killed early on). The things Nelsan Ellis has done with that character are downright amazing--I eat up every damn scene he is in. I can just THINK about how he called Sookie 'hooker' in that soft drawl of his last season and make myself laugh aloud.
And this scene... oh, this scene. Pretty much sums up all I love of this show:

And I LOVE Tara. Again, she is a minor character in the book, but I love what they've done with her in the show. The things that come out of that girl's mouth.... damn. I wish I had a fraction of her sass. And her biceps, too--she could lay most of the guys I know out. When she told the cop that there was a "big ass motherfucking Paul Bunyan Pig" in the road that made her crash, I laughed until I wept. (So glad they revisited that line this season.)

And. And! The Baby Vampire Jessica/ Hoyt romance! Ah! Ah! I LOVE it! I am just eating that one up with a spoon! When she gets all fangy while kissing him, and covers up her face and says, "I'd die of embarrassment if I weren't dead already"... oh.... perfect! It also helps that Hoyt is basically an exact carbon copy of a boy I used to have the hugest crush on when I was fourteen. Oh, I just love them together!

And Eric... oh, the stuff dreams are made on... And I dig the new haircut.

I also reeeeaaallly enjoyed the moment in the mall (vampires! in the mall! hah!) where the saleslady thinks Eric and Bill are gay:

Interestingly, the two characters I am disliking the most are the two that are supposed to be the center of the show--Bill, and Sookie. Now I do enjoy when even the writers make fun of Bill, like when Jessica mocks Bill's explanation of 'I have errands that do not require your presence'. But mostly, Bill needs the stick removed from his ass. He's not brooding like Angel was on Buffy; he just glowers, which is way less sexy. He's too cute to glower.

And Sookie... gah. She's so much pluckier--and way less whiny and irrational--in the books. In the show, she's downright self-centered and meddlesome. And the way she and Bill just drop Lafayette off AFTER HE HAD BEEN LOCKED UP FOR WEEKS IN A BASEMENT? They basically kicked him out of the car! SOMEBODY GO MAKE THAT BOY A CUP OF TEA AND RUN HIM A HOT BATH AND GIVE HIM A MOTHERFUCKING HUG!

And thus endeth my true Blood recap.
Hmm, maybe I'll make a habit of this.

Anybody else watching?

So, this season is ramping up nicely, but at this rate, I am afeared they are going to peak early.

i am so in love with Eric from the books - not so much with TV Eric, though....

I wish they would 'fill out' Pam's character some, I really like her in the books.

I really don't like the Jessica storyline all that much....I just can't see how they are going to get rid of her for them to go to Dallas?????

Lafayette is awesome!  I was a bit confused when he was locked up in the basement for a minute - he didn't even look like the same actor to begin with!

And I do not like Bill - in the books or in the show, though he does get to redeem himself in the tiniest in book 9, yet, I hope Charlaine Harris doesn't stuff them back together in the next book...I'm a Eric/Sookie fan!

HA! I went through this going, "Yup, yup, I KNOW!" I was horrified that they were ASKING Lafayette if he was okay, instead of, y'know, marching right on into his place CARRYING the poor boy. And finding him a freakin' doctor.

I adore Tara and her no-bullshit - she's awesome, and I howled in the same exact places. I also worship the ground Lafayette walks on - I can only assume that the decision to bulk up his role was due to the AWESOMENESS of the actor, because he's divine.

And Bill and Sookie are definitely the weakest links. I aore Sam, I love Arlene, I think Maryann is brilliant... Sookie's gurning face and random accent (I think it's Anna Paquin trying physically to get her tongue around the accent) bugs me, and Bill .. Yeah, not doing it for me. At least, not much of the time.

Well, I was a hater when it first came on...but I admit, it's grown on me. But unlike you guys, I cannot stand Tara. I mean, she has her moments but something about her speech or mannerisms just rubs me the wrong way. I'm hoping Eric gets some more development...but my faves are actually Sam, and then Jason. In fact, I have a huge ol' TV crush on Sam

I just started watching so I have a lot of catching up to do. Luckily, Alan Ball gave his handy Recap of Season 1 which brought me up to speed on the first few episodes that I missed. Love the show! I haven't read the books though. I'll have to look into those.
